Rules Regarding Use of
Medications
As mentioned
previously, the
aftercare program assesses relapse behavior in early stages
and uses compliance in certain areas for its assessment.
One very significant factor for persons being monitored for
addiction issues is adhering to Rules Regarding Use of
Medications:
-
You must notify
Administrative Assistant, Dru Barber, ext.3328, of all
the medications you are currently taking - even
over-the-counter medications.
-
All prescription
medications require a doctor’s prescription and you must
have a bonafide patient-doctor relationship with that
physician.
-
If a medication is
prescribed, please call Dru Barber immediately. Using
mood-altering medications on a non-emergency basis
without prior notification to your addictionologist,
nurse advocate, aftercare coordinator, may be considered
to be relapsive.
What is NOT
OK for Chemical Dependency Participants?
-
Use of another person’s
medication
-
Use of prescription drugs
without a valid, recent prescription
-
Mixing your medications
with someone else’s
-
Foods containing poppy
seeds
-
Medication containing
ephedrine
-
Medication containing
alcohol
-
Muscle relaxers (such as
Soma or Flexeril) without program approval
-
Sleeping medications such
as Ambien, Sonata or benzodiazepines
-
Prescription diet pills
or over-the-counter diet pills
-
Tramadol (Ultram)
-
Medications with
narcotics
-
Mouthwash with alcohol
-
Cough medicine (pills and
syrups) with narcotics or dextromethorphan
