Ridgeview Institute, Professional Building North

This INTRODUCTORY workshop is designed for those considering private practice as a career path. In professional training, little emphasis is placed on learning the business aspects of private practice. This workshop will help participants decide if private practice is the right career path. Issues related to entrepreneurship, choice of practice arrangement, fee setting, billing and collecting, the use of ancillary professionals, financial planning, and practicing outside of managed care will be discussed.

Research data will be presented on career satisfaction in private practice, sources of stress in private practice, characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, and on activities performed by psychologists and clinical social workers in private practice that fall outside of the purview of managed care.

 Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Identify the advantages and disadvantages of choosing private practice as a career path,

  • Demonstrate knowledge of components of entrepreneurship that are essential to success in private practice,

  • Recognize the advantages of starting your own practice or joining an existing practice and differing organizational structures,

  • Identify other professionals that may be helpful in the operation of a successful practice and how they can be helpful,

  • Recognize steps in fee setting and the billing and collection of fees that meet ethical and legal guidelines,

  • Identify methods in which psychologists can earn a living that fall out of the purview of managed care, and

  • Recognize the need for sound financial planning to effectively ensure the business and personal financial future of the practitioner.

Important Information About Our CEU Policy:

Ridgeview is instituting a new policy for issuing continuing education credits, based upon State Law and guidelines set forth by the Georgia Composite Board. If you are more than 15 minutes late in arriving for a seminar, you will not be allowed to enter until the first break. You will be welcome to remain for the balance of the presentation, but we will not be able to issue continuing education credits to you as a participant. This is according to agency regulations requiring attendance at the entire presentation in order for CEUs to be issued. We will also not be able to issue you a refund for the registration fee, since we have a stated refund policy and we will have already counted on your presence in planning for the seminar. We are instituting this policy in an effort to cut down on unnecessary interruptions during the presentation and to ensure that our accreditation to offer CEUs is not put into jeopardy. It is our goal to continue to provide you with quality, reasonably priced opportunities to acquire credits needed for your license renewal. Please plan to arrive early or on time for these events. We offer refreshments for your enjoyment before each seminar.
