Young Adult Addiction
Services
RIDGEVIEW INSTITUTE'S Young Adult Addiction Services is designed to address the age-specific issues of
18 to 26 years olds struggling with addiction. (27 to 30 year
olds are assessed on an individual basis for this program.)
Psychoeducational and process groups are provided for patients and
families to explore complicated separation issues related to
addiction and dual disorders.
Our program is based on the belief that addiction is
a chronic, progressive, primary illness affecting the physical,
emotional, and spiritual well-being of the individual and family.
Programming is adjusted to meet the specific therapeutic needs of
the current patient population.
The Young Adult Addiction Services offers a
well-integrated continuum of care for individuals with addictive or
dual diagnosis disorders.
It has been our experience that
young adults with addictive disorders are seldom addicted to just one
substance or behavior. Ridgeview's program combines five
levels of treatment, a broad spectrum of specialty groups and
services, and the 12-Step programs of recovery. This unique
approach addresses addictive disease and its associated problems in
a comprehensive, yet individualized manner. The goal of
treatment is to help patients learn how to cope with life free from
addiction.
We believe that addiction is a
primary drive that must be managed through education, cognitive
restructuring, emotive therapies, and the experience of learning to
live addiction free. Each of these processes helps the patient
unearth the issues that drive their addiction and learn how to halt
the addictive response. In doing so, they begin to recover
from the shame that surrounds their illness, and learn how to relate
to self and others in healthier ways.
Levels of Care
Intensive Inpatient allows patients who are
experiencing acute emotional or physical distress and detoxification
issues to begin treatment in an intensive therapeutic environment
with 24-hour medical care. Inpatient care is provided on the
adult stabilization unit.
Partial Hospitalization is the
primary level of care for the Young Adult Addiction Services.
Partial hospitalization provides more support and structure than
outpatient treatment can provide, but does not require 24-hour
medical supervision. Our program offers the same quality of
clinical care as our inpatient program and is available Monday
through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Young adult
patients reside in Ridgeview's Recovery Residence for added support
and structure.
Intensive Outpatient is a step-down level of care for those
who have completed the partial hospitalization program. This
level of care offers a flexible schedule of treatment - typically 2
to 3 hours per day.
Treatment Planning
Before admission to the Young Adult
Addiction Services, patients undergo a comprehensive assessment of
their physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and family needs
to determine the most appropriate level of care. The treatment
team, led by the attending psychiatrist,
develops and individual treatment plan for each patient and meets
regularly to review each patient's progress and to update treatment
goals. A clinical case manager, assigned upon admission, works
closely with each patient and family to ensure that the treatment
plan is meeting the patient's changing needs.

Staff
Directed by a board certified psychiatrist with a
certification in addiction medicine, the Young Adult Addiction
Services represents many professional disciplines,
including medicine, nursing, nutrition, social work, counseling,
education, expressive, and activity therapy. Experienced and
compassionate, Ridgeview staff work together as an interdisciplinary
team to assist each patient through the treatment process.
Family Services
Education for the entire family is a critical component of
Ridgeview's programs. Clinicians provide a wide range of
services, including family therapy and weekly patient and family
support groups.

Family Workshop
Our four-day
Family Workshop, held monthly, provides opportunities for
patients and families to heal together. General sessions
address family communication, rules and roles, codependent
relationships, shame and self-esteem. Other groups deal
with the impact of specific issues-depression, eating disorders,
trauma, and more-on the family system. |
Recovery Residence
Ridgeview Institute offers two
Recovery Residences on our
beautiful wooded campus. Our main residence houses
both men and women in separate male and female quarters.
Our second, smaller residence opened in April 2005, houses
young men in our Young Adult Addiction Services. This
residence offers additional support and containment for
young adult patients entering treatment. Both
residences offer supportive community living for men and
women in our partial hospitalization treatment programs.
Community living gives patients the opportunity to work on
restoring the balance between work, family, and leisure
while still in treatment. Whether they are in the
recovery process for eating disorders, addiction, depression
or another illness, patients in the Recovery Residences
develop a bond of community and partnership in healing.
Discharge Planning &
Continuing Care
Discharge
planning at Ridgeview begins upon admission. The
treatment team works closely with each patient to set
realistic goals for recovery and to develop a continuing
care plan to solidify the gains made in treatment. We
provide free weekly support and aftercare groups
specifically for young adults after successful completion of
the program. We also assist patients and their
families who need referral for additional treatment or
support services in their home communities.
Alumni Association
Alumni are available to talk with patients and families new
to recovery, support and reinforce the 12-Step programs, and
help bridge the gap between treatment and the outside world.
Most importantly, the alumni help restore hope. Many
former patients have told us that talking to someone who had
experienced success in recovery made all the difference.
The Alumni Association is active in the recovering community
year round and regularly sponsors monthly interactive
speakers' meetings, weekly aftercare support groups, and a
variety of leisure activities.
